It is a pathologically depend gingival sulcus due to apical migration of JE.
It may occur due to coronal movement of gingival margin, without destruction of underlying periodontal tissues is pseudo/ false/gingival pocket whereas apical migration of the JE with the destruction of underlying periodontal tissues is called true/periodontal pocket.
It is classified as:
According to no. of surfaces involved:- Simple, Compound, Complex pocket
According to nature of soft tissue trial of pocket:-Edematous, Fibrotic pocket
According to relation between base of pocket & crest of
remaining alveolar bone:-Suprabony, Infrabony pocket
