Ameloblast & Odontoblast

Ameloblast:

Enamel forming cells ameloblasts are cells present only during both development that deposit tooth enamel, which is the hard outermost layer of the tooth forming surface of the crown.

Derived from oral ectodermal cells

Structure: tall, columnar, polarized cells that secrete a number of enamel-specific proteins

Odontoblast:

bullet

The cells which form dentin

bullet

Large, columnar cells located at the periphery of dental pulp

bullet

Derived from ectomesenchyme cells originated to by migration of neural crest cells during the early craniofacial development.

bullet

Generally, 40pm in length and 4-8pm in width.
