Horizontal bone loss, vertical/angular bone loss, osseous
craters, bulbous bony contours, reversed bone architecture, ledges.
Bone loss is considered vertical when attachment &
bone loss on one tooth surface is greater than that on adjacent surface
& is associated with intrabony pocket formation. In horizontal
bone loss, bone loss occurs at uniform rate & is associated with
suprabony pocket. Vertical defects are classified as: one wall
(one wall remaining), two wall (two wall remaining) & three
wall defects (three wall remaining). A vertical defect that involves
more than one tooth surface is called as circumferential defect.
