The procedure was initially described by Bjorn (1963) is done to increase width of attached gingiva & to cover exposed root surfaces. It involves two surgical sites, with recession defect being the primary recipient site & secondary donor site which is usually maxillary palatal tissue. While preparing recipient bed, the periosteum is left covering the bone. As the grafted tissue doesnot have its own blood supply, therefore it relies on blood supply & nourishment from recipient site. Soft tissue graft is harvested from palate between the palatal root of 1st molar & distal line angle of upper canine. |
